GATE 2026: Your Path to IIT M.Tech and PSU Jobs
GATE 2026, organized by IIT Guwahati, serves dual purposes: M.Tech/PhD admissions at IITs, IISc, NITs and direct recruitment by PSUs like ONGC, IOCL, BHEL, NTPC. With 30 papers including the new Energy Science, candidates have diverse opportunities.
Understanding GATE 2026 Scoring
GATE uses a normalization formula: S = 350 + (350 × (M - Mq)/(Mt - Mq)). Score range: 0-1000. Top scores (800+) qualify for IIT admissions; 500-700 for NIT/PSU shortlisting. Score valid for 3 years.
Subject-Wise Strategy (for CSE/ECE/ME/EE)
Core Technical Subjects (70-72 marks)
These form the majority of the paper. Study each subject deeply with standard textbooks. Practice gate-level numericals. Focus on previous year repeated topics.
General Aptitude (15 marks)
Verbal (5 marks) + Numerical (10 marks). Easy scoring—don't neglect. Practice reasoning puzzles and English grammar daily.
Engineering Mathematics (13 marks)
Linear Algebra, Calculus, Probability, Differential Equations, Complex Variables, Numerical Methods. High-scoring if prepared well. Practice formulae-based questions.
Preparation Timeline

4-6 months before: Solve previous 15 years GATE papers subject-wise. Identify patterns.
2-3 months before: Full-length mocks. Time management practice. Revision of notes.
Last month: Only revision and mocks. Focus on formulae and common numerical types.
